Criminal Records Bureau Checks

Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) Policy

Everyone over the age of 16 who is coaching or helping with any children or young adults under the age of 18 must have a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check.  Information is completely confidential and the outcome of the check is returned confidentially from the bureau to the individual.

In 2009 the laws are even tighter on this issue and we must have everyone cleared before becoming involved.

CRB checks are easy and last 3 years.

Form completion and evidence checks take between 5 - 10 minutes if you know your National Insurance number.  You will need to provide either your Passport or Driving licence (photocard or paper), and 2 other forms of current name and address identification, eg current utility bill, current bank statement, current TV license, store card statement  etc.

You can have your checks done here by any one of three Safgeguarding Officers appearing on the Safeguarding Home Page between the hours of 10.45 and 12.00 every Sunday throughout September and then on the last Sunday in every month thereafter until the end of season.  Safeguarding Officers carry club radios so if they are not in the bar ask the bar staff to radio them.

Please see Jo Lawrence if you need any further advice.

CRB Step by Step Process

  1. Complete CRB disclosure application form as per guidance from Club Safeguarding Officer or CRB website - www.disclosure.gov.uk
  2. Return completed form to your Club Safeguarding Officer who will send it onwards to the RFU's Child Protection Unit for processing.
  3. Forms sorted and filed in date order for processing. An incorrectly completed form will be returned to the applicant for amendment, along with an explanation as to the reason.
  4. Disclosure form processed and entered onto the RFU Database.
  5. Once entered the application form will be forwarded to the Criminal Records Bureau.
  6. The CRB will then produce two copies of a Disclosure Certificate. One copy will be returned to the Applicant and one copy will be forwarded to the RFU Child Protection Unit.
  7. A Disclosure Certificate containing information will be forwarded to the RFU Referral Management Group who may ask for more information.
  8. A CRB disclosure received by the RFU will be valid for three years from the issue date stated on the CRB Certificate. Once this three year period has elapsed,
