Getting Work

For employment opportunities in the area please contact us with your CV and the type of work you are looking for.

There's a lot of work available in south east England and we can help - especially if you are residentially qualified and are a likely 1st XV prospect. If you are intending to work casually the main source of employment for Aussies & Kiwis are a couple of weekly papers called Southern Cross & TNT. Otherwise there are numerous agencies but  you may need a work permit to work officially. It all depends how long you intend to stay for & what line of work you are in.

For agencies, try the following on-line links:

Entry Clearance/Visas/Work Permits

Citizens of Commonwealth countries (inc. Australia & New Zealand) between the ages of 17 - 27 are permitted to visit the UK as a 'Working Holiday Maker' which allows them to take up casual employment incidental to their holiday, but not to engage in a business or pursue a career. The total period that may be spent in the UK is 2 years. Prior entry clearance is mandatory & must be obtained from the British High Commission in your home country.

If you have at least one British-born grandparent you can apply for 'UK ancestry employment entry clearance' from the British High Commission; which eliminates the need for a work permit. Married couples must apply for separate entry clearance before traveling.

You do not need a UK visa for a visit or to study but you must obtain an entry clearance if you wish to:

  • settle in the UK

  • work in the UK (unless you hold a work permit for this)

  • set up business in the UK

  • go to live in the UK as a person of independent means; or

  • accompany or join someone going to the UK for any of the above purposes.

Full details, including forms, advice & information are available from the visa section of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Also have a look at the introduction to UK Immigration.
