Lions breakfasts - good food, better rugby...
7th August 2017
June and July gave a welcome break with a mid-Summer break from no-rugby by the New Zealand tour of the British and Irish Lions. The rugby was emotional but a fair result was a success for both sides, with the All Blacks showing they are human and the Lions showing Tuilagi is not the only player to pick.
For the rugby, the Club hosted this year's 2017 Lions Breakfasts. After a rocky start on the first day with eggs and bacon both taking longer to cook than eat, the events brought club members and friends to the hospitality of the bar. One of the 5-a-day was helped with a boosting Bloody Mary and the constitutional Conisbees meat contributed to a good start to the day.
Overall over 400 breakfasts were prepared by volunteers from all sections of the club, with prizes including signed Harlequins rugby balls and ELRFC Club goodie bags being raffled. The three days raised more than £1500 for the club coffers, as well as contributing to adding more kit to the club kitchen (watch out for new foods from the start of this season).
The breakfasts also inaugurated the use of online booking and payment for tickets; the benefits of this are multi-fold but watch out for this channel to be used to buy tickets for other events over the next months.
Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who helped at these breakfasts - as ever, these events do not happen unless volunteers give freely of their time.
